Rotterdam – Russell R. Brown passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 27th, 2022 at the age of 90. Russell was born in Schenectady and was the son of the late Levi R. Brown and Hazel M. (Wright) Brown. After graduating from Draper High School, Russell enlisted in the United States Army, later transferring to the Navy where he was stationed in Norfolk, VA and served on the USS Robert K. Huntington DD 781. For 37 years, Russell worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service. He then went on to work for Mohonasen School District in food service. Russell was a family man. He attended little league games, many dance recitals, 4H activities and Mohonasen music performances and plays. He was very active in Rotterdam Elks Lodge 2157 and could always be found in the kitchen making salads or whatever was needed. Russell is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Arlene E. (Higgins) Brown; four children who he was extremely proud of, Dr. George R. Brown (Joan Koelbel), Dawn Mastroianni (Michael), Debra Palmer (John) and Darcy Brem (Steven); his grandchildren who lovingly referred to his as PopPop, Tracy-Renee Rogowski (Jared Jolin), Keysha Scagnelli (Kenneth Greenwood), Kenzie Manning (Robbie Sadaka), Leander Manning, Hannah Rose (Tyler) and Molly Brem as well as his great grandchildren, Adrian, Chloe, Kaden, Kyle, Kaleb and Levi. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5-7pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A funeral service will begin on Friday morning at 11am at Lynwood Reformed Church, 3714 Carman Rd., Guilderland. Interment with military honors will follow at Viewland Cemetery.
