Rotterdam- Ruldoph ‘Rudy' Basha, 82, of Rotterdam passed away peacefully at home On Sunday February 26, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. Rudy was a veteran of the Korean War and served aboard the battleship USS New Jersey as a hospital corpsman, where he was later meritoriously appointed by his admiral to the United States Naval Academy and was later medically retired. Rudy then began his tenure as a Schenectady City Police Officer where he proudly served 21 years and retired as Acting Lieutent in 1983. He founded and was actively involved in the Community Relations Program and was proud to serve his city. Rudy was a family man, an “aqua”-holic and his love of cars earned him the nickname “The Baron”. Rudy was predeceased by his parents Rudolph and Germaine Basha. He is survived by his loving brother Robert and his wife Carol Basha of Otego NY, his children Suzanne and her husband Charles Phillips of Gansevoort NY, Anne Maresca of Coxsackie NY and his son Rudolph Basha Jr. of San Diego California. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Jennifer Salisbury of Burnt Hills, Nicole Maresca of Niskayuna and Cassandra Maresca of Schenectady. Two great grandchildren Makayla and Zachary Salisbury, nieces Patty Dresser of Otsego and Debbie Poole of Orlando Fl. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc 1605 Helderberg Ave Rotterdam on Wednesday March 1 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Thursday March 2 2017 at 9:15 am. Immediately following a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Gabriel’s Church Rotterdam at 10 am.Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Niskayuna. In lieu of Flowers contributions can be made to the Animal Protective Foundation of Scotia and /or the Dementia foundation for Research.
