Ruggiero "Roger" Marzella

Roger Marzella, 67, of Rotterdam, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday August 7, 2026, after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest while traveling in Ireland with his family.

Born Ruggiero Marzella on February 24, 1959, in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of Paulo and Anna (Riganti) Marzella.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Ella, his two daughters, Alyssa Marzella and Laura Marzella (Matthew Hopper), his sister Raffaella and her husband Angelo Trichilo of Albany, his father-in-law Saverio Lasorsa of Rotterdam, his sister-in-laws Rosanna and her husband Robert Beneventano of Hicksville, and Lisa and her husband Dan Jordan of Schulyerville, and his brother-in-law Joseph Lasorsa of Rotterdam. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Anna Marzella, and his mother-in-law, Jean Lasorsa.

Roger was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School class of 1977, the Hudson Valley Community College class of 1979, and a proud graduate of the University of Miami class of 1984. Professionally, Roger spent his career as an architect for the NYS Thruway Authority. He was also an adjunct professor at Hudson Valley Community College.

His love for his family was a constant throughout his life, and some of his happiest moments were those spent together, especially while traveling. It is especially meaningful, and equally heartbreaking, that his final days were spent traveling through Ireland with his wife and daughters. He was surrounded by the family with whom he had built his life and was doing something that had brought him joy through so many different seasons of it.

Roger will be remembered for his remarkable intelligence, his accomplishments as an architect and educator, his humor, his complexity, his resilience, his love of travel, and above all, the love and pride he had for his wife and daughters. He will be missed beyond measure.

Viewing hours will be on Saturday, August 29th from 8 to 10am followed by a funeral service at 10am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam.
