Ronald H Nasseby

d. March 8, 2014

Ronald Harold Nasseby, 65, passed away at home on Saturday, March 8, 2014, in Delanson, NY, with his loving family at his side after a brave fight against lung cancer. He was born on March 11, 1948 in Staten Island, NY, to Harald and Lillian (Bie) Nasseby. Ron graduated from Eron Preparatory School in Manhattan and attended Grinnell College in Iowa before being drafted into military service in August 1967 with the U.S. Coast Guard, serving time on the USCGC John C. Spencer in Vietnam, the North Atlantic and New York harbor. Ron moved to the capital region where he was employed as a carpenter at SUNY Albany. Following that he was self-employed as a carpenter, contractor and woodworker. Ron was a self-taught carpenter from an early age who honed his skills by working alongside experienced carpenters and woodworkers, taking correspondence classes and attending woodworking workshops in Vermont. Ron enjoyed spending time in his workshop creating and building many things including rustic furniture. He always had several ongoing projects either at his home in Delanson or at the lake house and dreams for many more. He married his wife of almost 35 years, Maria Visalli, on April 10, 1979. Ron was a loving father of two sons, Benjamin Harald Nasseby, age 24 and Nicholas Vincent Nasseby, age 20. He designed and built their current home of 17 years; where many special family memories were created. Ron devoted his life to his family, teaching his sons to fish, ski, taking them camping, boating, hiking, canoeing, snowmobiling, assisting with Boy Scouts and taking them cross country and developing their love for the outdoors. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to many places together throughout their marriage. Ron will always be remembered for his irreplaceable sense of humor, quick wit and fun loving spirit. He maintained this throughout his difficult fight with cancer. Uncle Ron will always be remembered by his many nieces and nephews for his adventurous nature and willingness to give of himself. Ron took great pride in his Norwegian heritage and loved his devoted companion, Bjorn, the Norwegian Elkhound. He loved the Adirondacks and fulfilled his life long dream of having a place on the lake, spending summer, fall and winter with his wife, Maria, after she retired from the Amsterdam School District in June 2012. Ron is survived by his most cherished wife Maria; his sons, Benjamin and Nicholas; sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Raymond Wolfe of Flat Rock, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law: Janet and Stanley Ezman (Sherrill, NY), Peggy and Thomas Visalli (Oneida, NY); nieces and nephews: Douglas Wolfe (Lynchburg, VA), Heather, Russell, Sally and Heidi Ruckterstuhl (Charlotte, NC), Steven, Heather and Oliver Wolfe (Charlotte, NC), Amanda, Joseph and Lilah Hatfield (Oneida, NY), Zachary Ezman (Sherrill, NY), Jordan Ezman (Sherrill, NY), Joshua Ezman (Norwalk, CT), Thomas Visalli (Oneida, NY), Annamarie Visalli (Oneida, NY).
