Ronald (Ron) Millerof Albany, NY, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 19, 2023. He was born on December 22, 1936 in Schenectady, NY where he attended local schools. He later attended the College of Saint Rose where he graduated receiving a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration. He, his wife and two sons belonged to the Lynnwood Reformed Church in Guilderland, NY, for many years. Ron served on the Consistory and also as Chairman of Evangelism and president of The Brotherhood. His wife Laurie taught church school and his two sons were active in youth fellowship and various other church activities. Ron served in the 109th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron of the 109th Air Transport Group of the New York Air National Guard currently called Stratton Air Base, located in Scotia, NY. His group was activated into the U.S. Air Force for approximately one year. He flew on airlift support missions with his squadron to France several times and also to California, Florida and Texas. He received an honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant after serving with the NYSANG for six years. Ron was employed in the Large Steam Turbine and Generator Department at the General Electric Co. Schenectady’s main plant for 25 years. He was a GE Apprentice Training Program graduate, a Dept. Manufacturing and a companywide manufacturing training program as well as completing level II advanced studies. He held positions such as first shift lead foreman over 32 men, as well as an advanced methods specialist, and as a manufacturing program administrator. He also traveled for several years when asked to do so, acting as a manufacturing consultant and providing technical direction on farmed out work and at Canadian GE, domestic GE, and at independent service shops and Turbine Installation Sites. He was later employed by TAD Technical Service in the development of a Super Conductor prototype motor and generator being developed for naval ship propulsion. Ron was currently a member of the Altamont Reformed Church and a contributor to the City Mission of Schenectady and the Capital City Rescue Mission in Albany, where he spoke on a number of occasions. He also mentored a 30 year old Ex alcoholic and drug addict male living at the Albany Mission for well over a year and provided him with the financial and spiritual support he needed to transition back to a productive lifestyle. Ron is survived by his sons Jeffrey and Gregory Miller and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 3rd,11 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Tpk. (Rt. 20) in Guilderland.
