10/26/1925 – 12/14/2020 Rotterdam - Robert E. Widmer, 95, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020 after a brief illness. Robert was born in Herkimer, New York on October 26, 1925 to Joseph B. and Bessie (Curtis) Widmer. He graduated from Herkimer High School in 1945. From 1945 to 1947, Robert served in the 371st Air Engineer Squadron of the Army Air Corps in Okinawa. In 1949, he earned an associate’s degree in Retail Business and Management from the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences at Utica. On September 5, 1954, he married Lillian Shultis, and together they raised two daughters. Robert worked as a Purchasing Manager for General Electric Corporate Consulting Services & Automation Systems Operation in Schenectady. He retired in 1983 after 30 years of service. Robert loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling with Lillian, spending time outdoors gardening, and taking walks. He was an avid reader and particularly interested in history. In addition to his parents, Robert was also predeceased by his beloved wife who passed on November 24, 2009; daughter, Ruth Ann Widmer; and siblings, Dorothy Widmer, Isabel Widmer, Marjorie Gilbert, Joseph W. Widmer, Winifred Downey, Rosemary Pierce, and Elizabeth Lynch. Robert is survived by his daughter, Ellen (Robert) Stone; grandchildren, David (Mary) Stone, and Jared (Laura) Stone; great-grandchildren, Annleigh Kay, Lillian Claire, and Grayson Stone; sister-in-law, Katherine (Merton) Van Wie; brother-in-law, John (Marcia) Shultis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. An hour of visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9 – 10 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 10 am. Burial,with military honors, will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie. COVID guidelines, including, masks, social distancing, and occupancy limits, will be followed.
