Princetown – Robert E. Tietz Sr. of Gansevoort, NY formerly of Princetown, NY passed away peacefully into the hands of our Lord on March 14, 2018 with his loving family by his side in Bradenton, Florida following a long illness. Bob was the son of the late Frederick E. and Ella I. Tietz (Peek) and brother to the late Frederick Tietz. He is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate of 58 years, Lillian M. Tietz of Gansevoort, NY. His loving sons; Robert E. Tietz Jr. (Patricia) of Scotia, NY, Michael E. Tietz (Jean) of Rotterdam, NY, Timothy E. Tietz (Jill) of New Bern, NC, Daniel E. Tietz of Rensselaer, NY, Richard E. Tietz of Tribes Hill, NY, Bryan E. Tietz (AnnMarie) of Macungie, PA and Christopher E. Tietz (Danielle) of Florida, NY, His loved and cherished daughter, Denise M. Tietz of Gansevoort, NY. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 nieces and many beloved friends. A six year veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, Bob went on to serve with the City of Schenectady Fire Department for 33 distinguished years rising to the rank of Captain. With a passion for woodworking, he built his home for his family where his eight children were raised. He was the proud owner of Bob’s Building and Remodeling earning a reputation as a hard working and skilled carpenter. He was also the supervisor for building maintenance at the Center for the Disabled in Albany. Bob was an extremely dedicated and devoted family man getting his utmost enjoyment from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed travelling across the country in his RV and spending winters in Florida. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3-6 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Members of the City of Schenectady Fire Department active and retired are requested to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 5 pm. Funeral services will begin 10 am Monday at the funeral home followed by an 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church. Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to the Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center 22 Corporate Woods Blvd., 5th floor, Albany, NY 12211 or the Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region 433 State St., 4th floor, Schenectady, NY 12305.
