Robert C. Smith

Robert C. Smith, 91, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully with his devoted family by his side on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Robert was born in Schenectady on March 1, 1932, the son of the late Raymond and Mildred Trezza Smith. Following his graduation from Draper High School in 1950, Robert attended the DeVry Technical School in Chicago and received a Certificate in Electrical Engineering. He began his service in the United States Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955. Robert was employed as an Electrical Designer with General Electric for 37 years retiring in 1992. Robert enjoyed taking family trips, playing the guitar, was a train enthusiast and loved animals. Robert was known for his kind and gentle nature and was generous to all. In addition to his parents, Robert was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Lee Smith, whom he married in 1952. Lee Passed away in 2008, and his brother, Raymond Smith. He is survived by his children, Robert C. Smith Jr, Michael D. Smith, Sharon C. (Anthony) Tangarone and Karen V. (Victor) Murdock, two grandchildren, Paul Tangarone and Jackie Tangarone, his beloved great grandson, Nickolaus as well as several nieces, nephews and loving friends. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 11 am to 12:30 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.in Rotterdam. Funeral services and remarks will begin at the funeral home at 12:30 pm. Burial, with military honors, will be private.
