Robert J. McDonald, 66, of Schenectady, passed away at his home on Friday, July 22, 2022. Robert, or Bob, as he was known, was born and raised in Schenectady to the late Warren and Ruth McDonald. Bob graduated from Draper High in 1973. After High School Bob worked many years with his family at MCD Metals/Mechanical before retiring. He was a lifelong Dirt Racing fan, particularly Fonda Speedway, and especially Jack Johnson (12a). Bob also grew to love and receive formal training in horticulture. He spent his retirement days keeping up on his family, following Dirt Racing, caring for his yard and plants, and providing a loving home for his beloved dogs Cimmeron and Harmony. Bob is survived by his two sons; Nick McDonald (Anna) of Halfmoon and Shaun McDonald (Christine) of Rotterdam, as well as his grandchildren: Kyler, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Eden and Jude McDonald. He is also survived by his brother David McDonald, and sisters; Helene Reilly, Ruth Ann Thayer and Kathleen VanRensburg. He is predeceased by his brother James McDonald. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 10am to 12 noon at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Homeward Bound Dog Rescue in Bob’s honor.
