Robert B Glock

May 21, 1947 — October 24, 2020

Chestertown, NY - Robert B. Glock (Bob, Bobby), 73, of Chestertown, NY told his final joke at St. Peter’s Hospital on October 24, 2020. Born in Woodside, NY – “the Old Neighborhood” – Bob attended Power Memorial Academy, in New York City, and played baseball for the Gaels of Iona College shortly thereafter. Bob flourished in his career, serving as President at Eden Park Health in Albany, NY for much of his tenure. Backed by that old-school charm, he spent his days disregarding office policy and increased ice cream budgets by 150% (sorry, Chuck). In 1998, as a testament to his character and acumen, Bob was elected President of the New York State Health Facilities Association (NYSHFA). Three years of leadership turned into a lifetime of friendship and permanent admiration. The stories shared with his children solidified his love, respect and appreciation for his incredible colleagues. Bob fervently questioned 21st century luxuries: he refused all ATMs because they cannot hold a conversation; there was no way to “look-see-feel-touch” any of the internet’s consumer products. Even “The Old Neighborhood’s” music lives on with his children, who’ve grown to appreciate names like The Platters, Crests and Five Satins far more than he’d ever know. As Bob would say, “they don’t make ‘em like they used to!” Although there were few rules in his reign, it was clear pizza mustn’t be placed in a box; you may never leave the bar after a buy-back; he only accepted the elephants out of an animal cracker box. Also, he’d like you to know New York’s only professional baseball team plays near the 7. You aren’t wrong if you believe otherwise, just misguided. He believed Loon Lake in the Adirondacks was Earth’s finest locale. “The Porch” in Long Beach Island, NJ and the legendary White House in Queens, NY, respectively, round out his win, place, show. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Bernard Glock; his brother, Donald; his sister, Carol Kingston. The jury may be out on many of these “Glock-ism’s,” but there is one absolute: he loved his children and grandchildren – his greatest joys – with tremendous pride. Bob is survived by his children, Heather (Peter) Hoke; Sarah (Edward) Herzog; Matthew Glock; Rachel (William) Kemp. He was a proud Grandfather to Norah and Violet. Bob is survived by beloved brother, Richard, whom he loved deeply and held in his highest regard; sister in-law, Jo-Ann and many wonderful nieces and nephews. His family will remember his perfectly imperfect Christmas trees, the way he doo-whopped quietly whilst running errands and reminding us all to put our “bad foot forward.” He lived searching for the perfect loaf of rye, but never made it beyond “just okay.” This holiday season please remember the correct way to ask for pie – slab, sliver or slice. Bob lived his life the same way he left us: on his terms – content, at peace and surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11am at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on New Scotland Rd. (Route 85) in Voorheesville, NY 12186. In lieu of flowers or donations, we request everyone reading to pick up the next round, at any bar, in honor of our father, grandfather, brother and friend.
