Robert G. Burrows, 88, of Rotterdam, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Monday, October 24, 2016. Robert was born in Bloomington, Idaho, the son of the late Leonard E. and Eva Thornock Burrows. He graduated from Brigham High School before attending Utah State University and the University of Utah earning his BS and MS in Education and Administration and went on to earn his PhD at Ohio State. Bob taught in Utah, California, Florida and for the US Air Force Schools in Morocco, Germany and England. After receiving his PhD, he taught at Ohio State, Illinois State and Russell Sage in Troy. Bob was a devoted and loving husband and father who adored his family and always put their needs first. He enjoyed music, history and art. He especially enjoyed drawing, and collecting a variety of antiques. Bob served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1948 as a Weather Observer and Forcaster. In 1951, he joined the US Army and served with the 45th Division in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a first Lt. in 1955. Robert is survived by his wife Marion A. Burrows, three sons; Robert J. Burrows, Peter K. Burrows of Rotterdam N.Y. and R. Chris Burrows of Utah, his sister; Marylou Marten of Washington, one brother; Gene Burrows and his wife Dixie of Utah, four granddaughters, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews in Utah. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, 10 am at St. Gabriel’s Church, 3040 Hamburg St. Burial will follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery. Bob’s family would like to thank the hospice team of Jennifer Robbins, RN, Kris Ross, LCSW and Emily Otto, MDiv. for all of the help and support during Bob’s illness.
