Rita Homan May died peacefully July 17, 2016 at home, as was her wish. Rita was born to Kathryn Murphy and George F Homan April 29, 1924 in Towanda, Pa. She attended Towanda High School and graduated 1942. She lived there until she married Richard (Ted) May February 19, 1949. Theirs was a marriage of over 60 years. Rita was employed at the Harrington Locker Plant in Towanda for 9 years before she married and moved away from Towanda. Her husband was a test engineer for GE when they married and in April 1949 they moved to Schenectady where she lived until her death. She is survived by her seven children; Jeanette May, of NY, Suzanne Osborn (William) of VI, Lorraine Friedman (David) of MA, William (Erin) May of MA, John (Darrin) Ellis-May of GA, Richard G. May of NY and Denise May (Ashwin Shukla) of FL. She also leaves Grandchildren Audra (Brett) Harrington, N. Jamieson Kilinski, Katherine and Samantha Friedman, Caitlyn and Brenden May. Great grandchildren include Brady and Ashley Harrington. Devoted to her family always in our hearts. Rita is also survived by her brother in law James Lenox (Rose), sister in law Shirley Homan (Bob), Cousin Mary Jane Murphy wife of Joseph, Cousin Theresa Beckman (Maynard), Cousin Margaret Sullivan wife of Thomas Murphy, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Ted, sisters Rose and Alice (Paul) and brothers Thomas (Viola), Frank (Betty) and G. Robert, all of PA. Rita has had many community interests in her life in Guilderland, and a life-long love of books, the news and stories. One of her great memories was the association with the Library at St. Madeline Sophie School of Schenectady, where she headed up a staff of all volunteers for 22 years. Also was a longstanding member of the Guilderland Library Board of Trustees. She was also a Real Estate Associate with Roberts Real Estate. At St. Madeline Sophie she was involved in Parish council for several years, promoter of the Living Rosary Society, member of the Christ Child Society, St. Vincent DePaul Society (now the Food Pantry), Plus 50 dinners and the Duanesburg Seniors. Thanks to a family friend, Chris Luckett, Rita was able to go to senior classes at the Guilderland Town Hall. Arrangements under the direction of DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 5216 Western Ave., Guilderland, NY 12084 visiting hours are Wed 7/20 from 4-7:00 pm. A Mass of Christina Burial will be celebrated at St. Madeline Sophie Church 3500 Carmen Rd. Schenectady, NY 12303 at 10:00 am Thursday 7/21, and the burial is at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Ulster, PA at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers anyone who wishes to make a donation please do so to St. Madeline Sophie Food Pantry 3500 Carmen Rd., Schenectady, NY 12303 or to Guilderland Public Library 2228 Western Ave. Guilderland, NY 12084.
