Rita M. Bowers, 84, of Rotterdam, entered into eternal life Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in 1932 to the late Philippe and Eva Morin, Rita lived in Schenectady all of her life.She was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Rita's focus in life was her family, with whom she shared daily life.She was a natural care giver, a skill perfected during her years providing daily day care to her grandchildren from their births until they entered school.She then transitioned to caring for senior citizens, providing much needed relief and assistance to their family members. Rita worked for Traveler's Insurance Company before retiring.Her retirement lasted all of one month before she became the full time day care provider for her grandson Eric and 18 months later to his brother Adam.Her boundless love for children was admired by all who knew her. A lover of live music performance, she could frequently be found at Proctor's, Schenectady Community College's Carl Taylor Auditorium, Schenectady's Central Park or Scotia's Freedom Park. Rita was predeceased by her husband, Raymond F. Bowers. Survivors include her three children, Paul (Kathleen) Bowers, Mark (Sheila) Bowers, Patricia Knauf; grandsons Raymond Knauf, Eric Bowers and Adam Bowers. Rita is also survived by siblings, Jacklyn Sindoni, Donald (Delores) Morin, Carol Veach, Richard (Carolyn) Morin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 4 at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, 3040 Hamburg Street, Rotterdam.Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.Calling hours will be Friday, June 3 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joan Nicole Prince Home, 22 Glenview Drive, PO Box 2122, Scotia, NY 12302 or Schenectady County Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144. The family would like to extend special thanks to the aptly named Dr. Thomas Goodman and his staff at Upstate Hematology Oncology for their care and compassion during Rita's extended treatment, as well as staff at Ellis Hospital's C-1 Nursing Unit for their extraordinary kindness towards Rita and her family.Words cannot express our gratitude.
