Richard E Verruto

Schenectady - Richard E. Verruto (Dick), 89 passed into eternal rest on Sunday from complications after a 20 year battle with Alzheimer's. Dick was born on April 4, 1927, he was the last surviving child of Louis and Emily (Sbarra) Verruto. A lifelong Schenectady Resident, he graduated from MT. Pleasant High School in 1945 where he studied Music. After graduation he was drafted in the U.S. Army. Dick was employed as a Bartender for his brother Anthony at Verruto's at 1010 State Street and later at Verruto's Paddock lounge where he entertained his customers with his beautiful singing voice. In his earlier years, Dick was an Avid Golfer and Horse Racing Enthusiast, never missing an opening day at Saratoga. Dick was predeceased by his wife Barbara Shahan Verruto as well as his brothers Anthony, Louis and Ronald and sisters Evelyn Carter, Elvira Freeman and Gloria Verruto. He is survived by his Devoted Children, Son Richard Verruto Jr, daughters Lynn Verruto-Martin (Mark Mell) and Deidre Struffolino (Vince). Grandchildren Ross (Jessica) Martin, Erika Martin, Kara, Kayla, and Vinny Struffolino and his Great-Grandson Zachary. Dick is also survived by Several Nieces and Nephews. The Family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Capital Living Nursing and Rehabilitation for the love, care and support extended to our Dad and family for the last 10 years. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. Calling hours will be Friday from 4–7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 8:15 am Saturday at the funeral home followed by a 9 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Pleasant St. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend. At the request of thefamily, burial will be private. In Lieu of flowers, the family requestsdonations in Dick's name be made to the Residence Fund or Activity Department at Capital Living Nursing and Rehabilition Center 526 Altamont Ave, Schenectady NY 12303.
