Richard Patrick Ody

Rotterdam - Richard (Rick) P. Ody, 63, died on Friday morning, December 26th, 2014 at his home in Schenectady.Born in Schenectady, Rick attended Mohonasen High School and was the son of the late Charles and Christine Ody. After high school, Rick proudly joined the U.S. Army where he spent 18 years as a combat engineer and recruiter earning his highest rank of E-6. After his time in the Army, Rick spent a majority of his career as a long-haul truck driver and ended his career as a bus driver for special needs children.Rick is survived by Heidi M. Ody, his wife of 42 years, and his sons Steven and wife Wendy along with Richard and wife Bridget. Rick is also survived by his remaining brothers Charles of Rotterdam, David and wife Teresa, and Robert and wife Patricia.Rick joins younger sister Rose Marie and also his older sister Charlotte Ody of Rotterdam who passed on the same day two years prior.Finally, Rick is also survived by two grandchildren, Xavier and Tiffany, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A calling period will precede the service from 11-12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Saratoga National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Rick's memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.
