Richard Edward DeGonza, age 82, of Guilderland, New York, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 21, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who loved him dearly.
Richard dedicated 30 years of service to Owens Corning in Delmar, New York, where he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor.
His faith in Jesus was at the center of his life, influencing how he loved, served, and cared for others. He found his greatest happiness in spending time with his family, whether gathering for Sunday dinners, holidays or creating memories on family vacations. Richard enjoyed countless hours on the golf course, where he found both relaxation and friendship. He treasured every moment spent with those he loved. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and a sense of togetherness that will be deeply missed.
Richard will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. Those who knew and loved him will forever cherish the lessons, stories, and love he shared. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, family and kindness will live on through the many lives he touched.
Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Heitzman) DeGonza; his children, Shelley (Joseph) Salerno, Jodie (Stephen) Gay, Richard (Darlene) DeGonza, Jill (Donald) Collen; his grandchildren, Alyssa (Mark) Volkmer, Brittany Gay (Austin Cater), Jessica (Joseph) Santello, and Jeremy Collen; his great-grandchildren, Ellie and Will Volkmer; his siblings, Gail Farley and Garry (Laurie) DeGonza; and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard L. DeGonza and Helen (Coetta) DeGonza; his brother, Raymond (Roberta) DeGonza; and his niece, Dionne DeGonza.
In accordance with Richard’s wishes, services will be private and reserved for family members.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to caregivers, Joanne and Cheryl, as well as the Community Hospice staff for their compassionate care and support during Richard’s final days.
