Rotterdam - Raymond J. Bruning, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday May 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in West Haven, CT He was the son of Joseph and Mable Bradley Bruning. Ray served our country in the United States Navy from 1953-1957. He was an equipment engineer for IBM in E. Fishkill, NY, retiring in April of 1990 and has lived in the Schenectady area for the past 13 years. Ray was a life member and past president of the Hughsonville Fire Department obtaining the rank of Captain, past commander of the American Legion #1758, past commander of the Dutchess County American Legion, past commander of the VFW post 1895 in Schenectady, past Governor of the Kingston Moose Lodge, member of the Rotterdam Elks #2157 and a 25 year Member of the White Eagle Benevolent Society where he was active in the military band and the horseshoe league. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish. His wife; Helen “Sally” Lawlor Bruning passed away in 2005. He is survived by 2 sons; Raymond J. (Claire) Bruning Jr. and Jeff Bruning. 4 daughters; Susan J. Lapping, Laura Drexler, Donna (Leonard) Cara and Diane (Douglas Hard) Bruning. 7 grandchildren; Michael (Ashley Pemsler) Cara, Steven Cara, Jennifer (Blake) Williams, Gregory Drexler, Scott (Colleen) Drexler, Kristy Bruning and Joseph (Melanie) Bruning. 2 great grandchildren; Chase Lopez Drexler and Blake Lynn Williams. His sister; Joyce McDaniel. Ray is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents Ray was predeceased by his brothers Bradley and Leonard Bruning. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A graveside service will be held 10 am Saturday at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
