Rotterdam – Ralph A. Cimino, 96, passed away on Thursday, January 19th, 2017 at VanRensselaer Manor after a short illness. Born in Schenectady on June 28th, 1920, to his parents Giovanni and Catherine (Fisone) Cimino. Ralph attended Mont Pleasant High School and later, Siena College. Ralph worked at the General Electric Co. for 10 years and at the Watervliet Arsenal as a production planner for over 30 years. During this time, along with his sister, Rose and brothers, Steve and John, the siblings founded the Edgewood Restaurant on Altamont Avenue. Ralph briefly served in the US Navy followed by 2 years of service in the US Army and was discharged 1946. Ralph enjoyed bowling and playing poker with family and friends. He was self taught in computer skills and was an avid student of the stock market. He was a skilled cook, preparing meals for his family and Ralph enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Ralph is predeceased by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Madeline, who passed away in 2009. He is also predeceased by his siblings, Madeline Mercandante, Stephen Cimino, Rose Adamec, Joseph Cimino, John Cimino and Mary Fahy. Survivors include Ralph’s daughter, Carol (John) Nowak, his son, John (Andrea) Cimino, grandchildren, Timothy (Ann) Brennan, Jeffrey (Valerie) Brennan, Giovanni and Sophia Cimino, great grandchildren, Kayla and Madeline Brennan and step-grandchildren Amy, Michael and Daniel. He is also survived by his sisters, Vivian Shoemaker and Ann Bradshaw as well as many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 24th from 8:30-10:30am at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. A prayer service will take place at the funeral home at 10:15am and will be followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11am at St. Gabriel’s Church, 3040 Hamburg St., Schenectady, NY 12303. Interment will be in St. Cyril’s Cemetery. Contributions in Ralph’s name can be made to St. Gabriel’s Church at the address above. Arrangements are by R.J. DeLuccia Funeral Service.
