Schenectady -Phyllis M. Venturo Spillane, loving wife of 44 years to the late John H. Spillane (Jack), passed away peacefully on February 13, 2015 after a long and full life. She had tremendous spirit and a strong will to live, which will serve as an inspiration to those who follow her. She was the daughter of the late Philip and Katherine Rossetti Venturo. Sister of the late Philomena Venturo, Rose Venturo, Matilda Venturo and Gloria Halstead. She was also predeceased by brothers-in- law Donald Halstead and Francis Spillane, sister-in-law Margaret Smith (Theodore) and niece, Ellen Halstead. Her husband Jack, whom she dearly loved, died on March 6, 1997. Phyllis is survived by niece Janice (Tom) Fitzpatrick of Schenectady, nephew John (Lucy) Halstead of Halfmoon; grand nieces and nephews Sara Halstead, Amy Fitzpatrick and Tom Fitzpatrick and several cousins. Born in Schenectady, Phyllis lived here all her life. She was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and took additional courses at Vocational High School. She was employed as a secretary for ALCO Products Inc. for over 30 years until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Luke's Catholic Church and a longtime member of its Rosary Society. Along with her husband, she also enjoyed working as an election inspector in the 12th ward for over 30 years. Family trips to New Hampshire created many fond memories for her. She was an avid poetry writer and had many items published. Writing for many occasions was her passion and she composed verses for many relatives, friends and public officials. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 10 am to 11 am at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc., 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon at St Luke's Church, Schenectady. Interment will follow at St John's Cemetery Brandywine Ave. Memorial donations may be made to St Luke's Catholic Church, The Carmelite Nuns 1931 West Jefferson Road Pittsford NY 14534-1041 or one's charity of choice.
