Phyllis Mosher Clas passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, August 17, 2017. Phyllis was born to Amie Stone Pulver and Russell Pulver on April 29, 1927 in Lake Luzerne, NY. She moved to Schenectady in 1940, graduating from Nott Terrace High School in 1944 and Ellis Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. Phyllis was employed for many years as an RN, in several capacities, by Ellis Hospital until her retirement in 1987. Phyllis was predeceased by her previous husband Bernard VanWinkle, her brother Russell Pulver and her son, John Mosher. She is survived by her husband Tom Clas, her daughters Jane Capello (Ronald), Betsy Murray (John) and Denise Hoblock, 3 stepchildren, Ann Boheneck, Carol Clas (Liz Donati) and Peter (Ellen) Clas, her 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Joan Pulver Dixon, and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was very active in her church, Our Redeemer Lutheran, and also generously gave of her time to SICM, the Cancer Society, the Literacy Volunteers and other community charities. She also enjoyed bowling and golf in various local leagues. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her growing family, all of whom enjoyed visiting as often as possible. Visitation will be held at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady, NY from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, with the funeral service at 9am on Thursday, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 103 Reynolds St., Scotia, NY. A coffee hour in the Fellowship Hall will be held after the funeral service. All are invited to attend. A private internment will be held later at the family's convenience. Phyllis had requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY at 976 Albany-Shaker Rd., Latham, NY 12110 or Community Hospice at 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer NY, 12144.
