Philomena “Phil” Cimino, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on April 11, 2026, just 11 days before her 98th birthday.
Phil was born on April 22, 1928 to Thomas and Maddalena (DiMava) Tedisco in Rotterdam, NY, where she grew up with three sisters, Mary, Rose and Kathryn, and a brother, Nicholas.
Phil worked at the Glove Factory in Schenectady while attending cosmetology school at night.
Later, while working as a hairdresser at Charles of Scotia, she met the love of her life, Steven Cimino. After finally convincing her to go out for ice cream, Phil and Steve fell in love and got married on February 21, 1965.
Phil later went on to open her own salon, “Phil’s Beauty Shop,” on Curry Road in Rotterdam.
Phil and Steve had one child, Maria, and after only 6 years of marriage, Steve passed away suddenly. That’s when Phil decided to move Phil’s Beauty Shop to her home in Rotterdam, so she could work and raise her daughter. After 30 years, she semi-retired and moved to Father Leo O’Brien Senior Community, still doing hair part-time, while also taking care of her granddaughters, volunteering at the library, and joining the Red Hat Society.
Phil left a beautiful lasting impression to anyone she met with her constant smile, joyful spirit and upbeat positive attitude.
In addition to her parents and husband, Phil was predeceased by her siblings, Mary, Rose, Kathryn and Nicholas. She is survived by her daughter, Maria (Eric) Picard, granddaughters, Amber and Maylee Picard, and several nieces and nephews, all whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at The Grand at Guilderland, who provided Phil with compassionate care in her final weeks.
A Calling Hour will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Road, Schenectady, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00 AM.
Phil will then be laid to rest at Saints Cyril and Method Cemetery, 611 Duanesburg Road, Schenectady, NY, where she will join her beloved Steven in eternal peace.
