Phillip Depoalo

August 25, 1956 — June 18, 2019

Scotia – Phillip DePoalo, 62, passed away Tuesday June 18, 2019 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of Salvatore and Ruth Friello DePoalo. Phil was a corrections officer for the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department retiring with more than 15 years of service. While working, he was the Union President for the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Benevolent Association. He also was the proprietor of the Sunshine Café at the Ten Eyck apartments where he was able to show his love for cooking. He also sat on the board of the Cambridge Manor Homeowner’s Association. For more than 10 years Phil was a coach for Schenectady-Belmont PopWarner football and was a regular at the Friday night Schenectady High School football games. Phil will be remembered most for his love of family, especially at Christmas time when “Santa Claus” would visit the family and buy toys for the kids along with anyone else he knew that was in need. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Carolann. His son, Nathan DePoalo. His step-daughters Lisa Mooney and Kimberly (Eric) Medved. His brother, Carmen (Paula) DePoalo. His brother-in-law, Tom Pierce. His grandchildren Amanda, Cassidy, Alexander and Ethan. He also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents Phillip was predeceased by his sister, Christine Pierce. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin at 8 am Saturday at the funeral home followed by a 9 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’ Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Phil’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or City Mission of Schenectady.
