Guilderland - Peter D. Smith, age 79, died at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center on January 24, 2021. Peter was born on February 23, 1941 in Poughkeepsie, NY, son of the late Harry V. and Mary Denney Smith. He attended Arlington High School and graduated from Paul Smiths College. Peter owned and operated Tri-County Bottled Gas on Burdeck Street in Rotterdam for over 35 years. He was a member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Church in Rotterdam and he was past president and a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club of Rotterdam. He was a member of Pinehaven Country Club for thirty years, enjoying the game and counting three holes-in-one. Pete loved the outdoors, especially the Adirondacks, and always appreciated the beauty of our land while fishing and sailing with family and friends. He had great pride and gratitude for his long, happy marriage to his best friend, Mary, and also in the accomplishments of his sons, grandsons, and their families. His love for the whole family shined through his hard work, his strength, and his kindness throughout his life and was reflected back in the love his family had for him. He is survived by his brother Paul H. Smith (Virginia) of Colchester, VT, his wife of 58 years, Mary, his sons David (Lisa) and Stephen (Sean), grandsons Benjamin (Elizabeth), Thomas (Katie), Zachary (Renae), a newborn great-grandson, Nathan Peter, a niece, Jennifer, nephew, Gregory, and four great-nieces.
