Peter M Sgambati

Rotterdam - Peter M. Sgambati, 91, of Judson Meadows Assisted Living, formerly of East Campbell Road, Rotterdam passed away peacefully at Schuyler Ridge Residential Healthcare on January 26, 2022 with his loving daughter, Cathy and devoted son, Steven at his side. He was born in Amsterdam in 1930, the only son of the late Chiarina and Stephen Sgambati. Peter graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1948, was a member of the NYS Army National Guard, and joined GE starting in Steam Turbine Building 273 and working his way to be a manager of the TIPO computer operations center eventually retiring in 1989 after 35 years of service. Peter was married to his beautiful wife, Adeline on September 20, 1953 and whom he missed dearly since her passing in 2012. Peter loved supporting his New York Yankees, Knicks and Giants and then grew a passion in his later years for hockey, dance and soccer because of the influence of his grandchildren that played those sports. He also enjoyed playing poker and going to the casino with his dearest family members. Peter is predeceased by his sisters, Dominica (Nicholas) Iavarone of Mechanicville and Anna (Ed) Waldynski of Amsterdam and his brother-in-laws,Henry Repka of Broadalbin and Andrew Santabarbara of Rotterdam. Peter is survived by his daughter, Catherine (Wesley) Vyverberg of Rochester; his son, Steven (Mary Ann) Sgambati of Clifton Park; five grandchildren, Daniel (Jennifer) Vyverberg of Tyler, Texas, Joseph (Ryley) Vyverberg of Rochester, Steven Vyverberg of Rochester and Jessica and Alyssa Sgambati of Clifton Park; one great grandchild, Patricia Jo Vyverberg of Tyler, Texas; his two sisters, Jennie (Mike) Orapello of Amsterdam and Carmella Repka of Rochester formerly of Broadalblin; his brother-in-law, Angelo (Betty) Santabarbara of Rotterdam and many nieces and nephews that he loved deeply. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam on Tuesday from 11am-1pm. A service will follow at 1pm. Peter will be laid to rest at St. Cyril’s Cemetery on Duanesburg Rd. in Rotterdam. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the care staff at Schuyler Ridge, to Margaret Jones of Community Hospice, and the many friends at Judson Meadows Assisted Living for their devoted care and support during Peter’s stay. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
