Peter Matthew McNeil, 76, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Born in Schenectady, Peter was the son of the late Bernard and Helen (Riley) McNeil. He was a 1958 graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School and a 1962 graduate of Niagara University. Peter was a partner with Lampron, McNeil and Associates in Watervliet. He later ran his accounting practice Peter M. McNeil Accounting in downtown Schenectady. Peter deeply loved his family, and showed unconditional love to them all with kind words, a great listener and quick wit. He will be remembered as a honorable man with high character and honorable principles. He was a role model for his children and showed unconditional love to his family and will be greatly missed. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren splash in their pool, and when together as a family. Peter was the founder of the NY chapter of the Association of Enrolled Agents, former president of the NYS Society of Independent Accountants and he was a member of the Rotterdam Elks and a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady. He was also an avid Niagara University basketball and New York Mets fan. Peter leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Gail A. (Pastore) McNeil, his children, Kathleen M. McNeil and her spouse John B. Lepes, Maureen A. Galofaro and her spouse Giuseppe ( Joe) Galofaro and Matthew P. McNeil and his spouse Maureen McDermott McNeil, his grandchildren, John P. Lepes, Rachel G. Lepes, Marina Strang (James), Nicole Galofaro, Diana Galofaro, Angelo Galofaro, Brendan McNeil and Liam McNeil as well as his great granddaughter, Charlotte Ann Strang. Peter also leaves behind many friends, clients and colleagues. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16th from 8:15-10:15am at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
