Schenectady – Peter J. DeLuccia, 97, passed away on Monday, October 8th, 2018 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home following a long illness. Born on July 27th, 1921 in Schenectady, Peter was the son of the late Vincent and Constance (DeMarco) DeLuccia. Peter graduated from Vocational High School in Schenectady where he was the president of his class. For over 40 years, Peter worked at the General Electric Company, beginning his career in the test division and progressing into aeronautical space engineering. Peter was an electrical wizard, always entertaining his siblings with crystal sets and short wave broadcasts in his home lab. He also enjoyed traveling and playing bingo. Peter served as head usher for many years at St. Madeleine Sophie Church where he was a longtime communicant. He was especially proud to be a founding member of the group which raised funds to establish the convent and school at St. Madeleine Sophie Church. Besides his parents, Peter is predeceased by two wives, Phyllis Palombi DeLuccia who passed away on August 12th, 1995 and Evelyn Pauling Havlicek who passed away on May 20th, 2012. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Donald, Anthony and Frank DeLuccia. He leaves behind one brother, Richard J. DeLuccia, step-daughters, Lynn Havlicek Smith (Allen) and Karen Havlicek Hordowick (Douglas) as well as 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday evening from 5-7pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 9:15am and will be followed by a mass of Christian burial that will be celebrated at 10am at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, Guilderland. Burial will take place at St. Cyril and Method Cemetery. Peter’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Kingsway and especially Richard of the patient support staff who was always so kind to Pete.
