Paul M. Folus

Aug 16, 1952 — Sep 27, 2026

Schenectady

Paul “Grampie” Folus, 74, a beloved father, loving husband, doting grandfather, and eternal problem-solver, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a 9-month battle with cancer on Sunday, September 27th, 2026.

Paul was born in Schenectady on August 16th, 1952. He retired from his career as a prototype machinist at Watervliet Arsenal after 27 years of government service.

Paul was a man of boundless energy and intelligence. He had a sharp wit and a contagious laugh. He was boisterous, deeply generous, and always ready for a good time. A technology enthusiast with a fix-it attitude and an improver of all things, he was always in the middle of a project or helping someone else with theirs.

Paul was possessed of a passion for life and an unwavering desire to learn, create, and remedy.

This spirit which characterized his life turned into many lessons that he eagerly imparted onto those around him.

In his free time, Paul loved camping with his family at Tupper Lake in upstate NY. After retirement, Paul took many trips along the East Coast with his wife. Paul loved building and riding E-Bikes, enjoying delicious meals, and chatting with new friends on handheld radios during these trips. He was an impassioned conversationalist who deeply enjoyed music, movies, and spending time with his loved ones.

Paul is survived by his wife Susan Folus (Hofmann), his daughter Carrie Bodner (Folus), his son-in-law David Bodner, his two grandchildren Emma and Isaiah Bodner, and his grand-dog William.

A funeral will begin on Tuesday, October 6th at 10:30 at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home in Rotterdam followed by a 12 noon prayer service. We invite all who knew and loved Paul to join us in honoring his memory.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Capital District Community Hospice.
