Patrick J Oropallo

June 1, 1965 — January 26, 2023

Rotterdam – Patrick John Oropallo, 57, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 26th, 2023 after enduring a chronic illness. Born in Amsterdam, Patrick was the son of the late Francis and Mary Joan Oropallo and Step mother, Carmella Oropallo. He graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1983 and shortly after joined the United States Navy where he served 5 years as a Seabee. Patrick was the most dedicated chef for 28 years at Canali’s Restaurant. Canali’s meant so much to Patrick, especially working with family members. Canali’s was an extension of home for him. He put 100% into every dish he prepared. Whether it was the first meal out of the kitchen that night or the last, Pat put his heart and soul into each plate. Patrick was famous for his New England clam chowder. Family was the center of Patrick’s world. He was a wonderful brother, uncle and grand-uncle, lovingly referred to as “U.P.” by his nieces and nephews. Patrick cherished Monday night family dinners. He had a contagious laugh and enjoyed telling a good joke. He loved playing golf with his buddies and with his dear friends Mike and Susan. Patrick was an active trustee long term member of the Rotterdam Eagles for over 25 years. He loved all his fellow Eagle friends. And how Patrick loved the Pittsburgh Steelers! Huge fan! As a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Patrick never missed a Sunday morning Mass. Each week receiving the Eucharist was something that brought him comfort and joy. He is survived by his siblings, Michael Oropallo (Debbie), Francis Oropallo (late Marcella), Russell Mahar (Doreen), Thomas Oropallo, Theresa Sorenson (Gary), Catherine Saj (Chet), Mary Elizabeth Manderson (Dean), Timothy Oropallo (Rose), Stephen Oropallo, Patricia Smith, Ann Marie Alteri (Peter), Margaret Semon (Kurt) and Mark Oropallo (Holly) as well as many nieces and nephews. A visitation period will take place on Thursday, February 9th from 9:30-11am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Rd., Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian burial will follow, beginning at 11am. Patrick will be laid to rest at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers, donations in Patrick’s name may be made to an organization that he loved, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org/donate.
