Patricia E. Shimkus

Patricia E. Shimkus, 88, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 26, 2023. Patricia was born in Plattsburgh, NY on August 9, 1935, daughter of the late Homer and Marguerite (Ellett) Plantier. Married for 53 years, she was the loving wife of Joseph J. Shimkus who passed away in 2008. Patricia was also predeceased by daughter-in-law Evelyn Shimkus. Patricia was a 1953 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. She worked for the Department of Labor for 37 1/2 years, retiring on March 31, 2003. Patricia attended First Presbyterian Church in Schenectady. She greatly enjoyed the women's bible studies at church. In her leisure time, Patricia loved to knit, crochet, assemble jigsaw puzzles, and read. She also spent a great deal of time on Ancestry.com researching her genealogy and working on her family tree.

Patricia is survived by her sister, Adrienne Rexford; five sons, Mark (Cindy) of Colonie, Paul (Debra) of Rotterdam, Todd (Deborah) of Rotterdam, Eric (Alisa) of Murfreesboro, TN, Cory (Tammy) of Colonie; one daughter, Karen of Scotia; thirteen grandchildren, Sarah, Laura, David, Rita, Todd II, Kevin, Brian, Jeremiah, Bethany, Leah, Andrew, Heather, and Joshua; thirteen great-grandchildren, Giovanna, Luke, Jianna, Malachai, Melissa, Skyler, Shaun, Kiera, Joseph, Samantha, Anessa, Makenzie, and Caiden; and one great-great-grandchild, Elwood. The family would like to thank Patricia's visiting nurse, Melissa Racine, and her hospice nurse, Lori Clark, for their kind, gentle, and loving care.

Friends and family are invited to call on Monday December 4th between the hours of 10am and 12pm at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 12pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Albany, NY.
