SCHENECTADY - Patricia Heaney Hosey, 88 passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
Patricia (Pat) was born in Queens, NY. She eventually moved to Lindenhurst, Long Island in her early 20's. She met her husband, John, at a CYO meeting and that is when their love story began.
They dated for two years and then John was drafted to Panama as part of the Korean War conflict. After two years abroad and two more years of courtship they married on May 10, 1958 and have been happily married for 65 years. John proudly says they have never had an argument.
Pat worked for a few years as a secretary in New York City prior to marrying John. But, she quickly pivoted to managing his plumbing and heating business, Hosey Plumbing & Heating, out of their home. She ran a tight ship and supported John's business for 50 plus years.
Pat and John had one son, Thomas (Tom), whom they adored. She loved her trips "upstate" when Tom was in college here and when he eventually moved here. She got joy from the simplest things in life. She was no fuss, no muss and was the most agreeable and cordial lady you would ever meet.
Pat was a master knitter and her specialty was baby and children's sweaters. So many of us received them as gifts but she loved to donate them to church craft fairs as well. A few of us lucky ones received beautiful handmade Irish fishermen sweaters from her. Over the years, when Tom was young, she volunteered countless hours at his elementary school. She spent over 60 years in Lindenhurst, NY and was a proud member of the Lindenhurst Historical Society and even worked part-time at the Lindenhurst Village Museum in her retirement years. She loved to putter around the garden with John. They grew a gorgeous garden complete with lush tomato, blueberry, zucchini and various other plants.
They took a chance over 50 years ago and bought property out in Montauk, NY, when everyone thought they were crazy, and built their summer home. They spent almost every weekend by the ocean as they were raising Tom and for many, many years later. She loved nothing more than a lobster roll at Topside and a glass of Chardonnay with John at her side. They hosted family and friends there and everyone has a story about their stays in Montauk. She was "Long Island" through and through. A faithful Catholic, she was a long-time communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lindenhurst, NY. Pat and John relocated to the Kingsway Community in Schenectady, NY in July 2021 to be closer to Tom and family.
Pat was the daughter of Isabelle Dietz Heaney and Francis Heaney. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Hosey, her son Thomas Hosey of Guilderland (daughter-in-law Laura Sfara Hosey) and grandchildren Matthew & Joshua Hosey. She was the sister-in-law of Joan Hosey of Long Island (predeceased by her brother-in-law, Philip) and Georgene Heaney of Long Island (predeceased by brother Francis Heaney). Also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Pat’s funeral service will be held Friday, September 29th at 10 am in the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 5216 Western Ave., Guilderland. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with her family prior to her service from 9-10 am at the funeral home. Interment will be at 12 noon in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those who wish may send memorial contributions to Alzheimer’s Association, 4 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY 12205.
