Rotterdam – Norma M. Pugliese, age 87, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 21st, 2021 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Norma was born in Amsterdam, NY to her parents, the late Joseph H. and Jane (Cardillo) Cagnina. A graduate of St. Columba’s High School, Norma worked for a short time at Metropolitan Life before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was an excellent cook and baker, specializing in her famous chili sauce and eggplant. In her younger years, Norma was a den mother for her sons’ Boy Scout groups. She was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, formerly Our Lady of Assumption, where she was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Rosary Society and was a member of the Princetown Seniors with her husband, Frank. Some of Norma’s hobbies included sewing and needle point. She also enjoyed playing cards and games with her friends and family. She was a breast cancer survivor. Above all things, Norma was a caregiver to so many and a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Frank A. Pugliese Sr.; children, Sheila (Louis) Costello, Joseph (Robin) Pugliese, Donna (Brian) DiGiuseppe and Frank (Graciela) Pugliese Jr.; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason (Jennifer), Kristina, Joe Jr., Angela and Adeana; step-grandchildren, Brian, Carl and Robert as well as 6 great grandchildren. Norma also leaves behind her sister, Loretta (John) Marshall and brother-in-law, Bob (Judy) Pugliese in addition to several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Norma was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Marion and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Stella Pugliese. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue in Rotterdam. Services will begin on Monday morning at 10:15 AM at the funeral home and will be followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 11 AM. Burial will follow Memory Gardens in Colonie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norma’s name to the City Mission, 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
