Norma M (Tunke) Bright

August 17, 1930 — November 15, 2017

Rotterdam – Norma M. Bright, 87, passed away Wednesday November 15, 2017 at the Capstone Center. Born in Schenectady and a lifelong resident of Rotterdam, Norma was the daughter of Paul and Hedwig (Hanke) Tunke. She was a 1947 graduate of Draper High School and then attended NY Spencer Business Institute until 1950 at which time she became employed by General Electric, large steam turbine division, until 1959. Thereafter, she became a dedicated homemaker and devoted mother. Norma was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church in Schenectady until its closing, then she became an active member of St. Luke’s Church. Norma was involved in various volunteer organizations. One being Concern for the Hungry, where she served as treasurer for many years. She was also involved in the Rotterdam Seniors and led fitness classes. Norma was an avid reader and crossword puzzler, enjoyed playing the piano, watching football, playing cards and had a passion for traveling. Above all, her love was spending time with her family. She also cherished her beloved grand-dogs; Jake, Karma, Aza, Hunter, Emelie, Louie, Raena, and Sugar. Her husband of 51 years, George Bright, passed away in 2010. She is survived by her four children; Sharon Haile of Rotterdam ,Gary Bright (Carol Fink) of Watervliet, Brian (Corrina) Bright of League City, TX, and Carol Gogan (Michael) of Rexford. Her two granddaughters; Newe and Kaysha Haile. Along with her parents and husband, Norma was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Stevens. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 8:15 am Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a 9 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke’s Church. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to Concern for the Hungry, 218 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, NY 12307.
