To watch a family member pass away is very emotional. He had a kind heart and a beautiful soul. We are extremely saddened by the passing on March 7, 2024, at The Schenectady Center for Nursing and Rehab of Norbert Joseph Fitzner. Born on June 6, 1942, in Schenectady, NY he was predeceased by his parents Anna (Grzybowski) and Edward Fitzner. Norbert was the youngest son of two (Edward deceased). He lived most of his life with his parents at the family store - “Fitzner’s Grocery” on Fifth Avenue in Schenectady, NY. Norbert worked as a cashier and bagger at the family store, and he also held jobs at Mohawk Club and Hannaford Markets. He also volunteered his time at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Ctr. He was so dedicated to volunteering that Sunnyview did an article of Norbert in a Newsletter. Norbert enjoyed listening to music and working on word search puzzles. He also enjoyed family get togethers for holidays and family celebrations, eating out in restaurants and spending time with his life partner Sherry Morrow.
Norbert is survived by his caregivers and cousins Sue Ferrara (Charles) and Jan Greene-Catalano (Ralph) and several cousins.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 1255 Pleasant Street, Schenectady, NY on Monday March 18th at 11 am. Interment will follow at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Hamburg Street, Schenectady, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel or the Animal Protective Foundation. Norbert you were so loved, and we hope you find peace in heaven with your mom, dad and brother.
