Schenectady - Nicholas Picciano, May 17, 2016, passed away at Kingsway Nursing. Nick was born on Dec. 6, 1921 in Hazleton, PA.He was the son of the late Michael and Sarah Mollico Picciano.He grew up in New York and was a 1939 graduate of Bryant High School in Long Island City, where he was band president.He received his Bachelor's Degree in Music and Master's Degree in Education from Columbia University and his Professional Diploma from Julliard. As a professional musician, Nick played trumpet in various Broadway venues and also extensive concert work.He knew and played along with the greats, from Tony Bennett to his last professional gig with Judy Garland.He taught orchestral music from 1961 to 1967 in Astoria, Queens.He then moved to Latham, NY and began a career as a music teacher at Watervliet High School until his retirement. Nick was the beloved husband of Antoinette Nuzzaco Picciano whom he married in 1967 and who passed away in 1992.He was the beloved brother of the late Frank, Edward, Alfred, Chester "James", Dante, and Michael (Jr.) Picciano, and Dr. Salvino D'Angelo, Susan Rocco, Beatrice Tate, and Yolanda Amato.Nick is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Calling hours will be held Sat. June 4 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam, followed at 10 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Rd., Rotterdam.Interment will be at St's Cyril and Method Cemetery.
