Nelson R. Travis

SCHENECTADY -Nelson Rocelius Travis, 59, of Albany, New York, passed away on November 28, 2023. Born on October 24, 1964, in Mobile, Alabama, Nelson was a loving and hardworking individual who always put his family first. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, sharing old stories and memories that brought them closer together.

Throughout his life, Nelson worked as a dedicated contractor, finding joy in teaching his sons valuable skills that they could use both in their work and in their future endeavors. He instilled in them the importance of a strong work ethic, ensuring that they would be well-prepared for whatever challenges they faced.

When he wasn't working, Nelson could often be found engaging in his hobbies. He had a knack for fixing things and was always hands-on when it came to repairs. He also enjoyed sharing stories of growing up with his family in Alabama, watching old movies and cheering on his sons at their baseball games. Spending time with his sons was something that brought him immense happiness.

Nelson is survived by his sons, Nelson X Travis and Israhel Travis, as well as his daughters Felicia D Smith, Reneika T Travis, Kaneshiawa L Travis, and Courtney L Lewis. As well as his sisters Gwen Amandla , Ethel Johnson and his brother Wilbert Travis (Regina). Nelson also leaves behind 16 cherished grandchildren. Nelson was predeceased by his wife, Ana Luisa Travis, son, Nelson D Travis, his mother, Johnnie B Travis, and his father, Wilbert Travis.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 29th, at Demarco Stone Funeral Home in Schenectady, New York. The service will take place from 2-4 PM, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and loved ones to pay their final respects.
