Nastasia Nellie Mastroianni

NASTASIA (NELLIE) MASTROIANNI Saratoga Springs – Nellie Mastroianni, 99, formally of Rotterdam, peacefully passed away on Sunday March 26 at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. She was born on July 13, 1917 in Schenectady. Nellie was the daughter of the late Antoinetta (Palma) and Angelo Oropallo. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Schenectady for 99 years where she was a member of the Mount Carmel Women’s Society and the Mount Carmel Seniors. Nellie was known for her baking and Italian cooking. There was always room for another person at her table. Nellie loved to follow baseball, football, golf, tennis and the NCAA. Nellie was very loyal to her favorite teams and coaches. While watching a game on television she thought nothing of “voicing” her opinion to a player or coach Nellie never knew a stranger and endeared herself to all who met her. She was proud of the fact that she could tell a good joke or remember what you wore to a special event a decade ago. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years Fred P. Mastroianni, a daughter, Joyce, her brothers, Carmen and Joseph Oropallo and a sister Josephine Musto. Nellie is survived by her daughter Carol (Ted) Obloy, son Fred (Carol Mias), and grandchildren, Barbara (Stewart, III) Scott, Michael J. Smith, McCall (Shawn) Webster, Torre (Julianna) Mastroianni, and her sister Jean Qualantone. Nellie was also the proud great-grandmother of Stewart, IV, Traxler and Teddy Scott and Tristan and Poppy Webster. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday April 1 at our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 1255 Pleasant Street Schenectady. Calling hours will take place on Friday March 31 from 4 to 7:00 p.m. at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Avenue Rotterdam. Interment will be at the convenience of the immediate family.
