Nancy C. Mango

Nancy C. (Caldara) Mango, 74, of Schenectady, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Ellis Hospital.

Born in Niskayuna on October 22, 1950, Nancy was the second and youngest daughter of the late Samuel and Marianna “Mary” (Manuli) Caldara. She graduated from St. Columba High School in 1968 and trained as a hairdresser at Europa School of Cosmetology in Schenectady. In her early years, Nancy worked as a waitress and cook at her family’s diner, The Colonial Restaurant, located on Albany Street in Schenectady. It was there that she met her husband, the late Clifford J. Mango, who preceded her in death in 2014. They married in December 1981 and went on to have one daughter, Maranda (Paul Buchbinder) Mango. From 1986 to 1991, Nancy and her husband operated Colonial Grocery convenience store also on Albany Street. In the early 90s, Nancy began working in food service at the Price Chopper on Eastern Parkway in Schenectady and retired from there in 2014 as assistant manager.

Nancy was a devoted sister, wife, and mother. She cherished her only daughter with whom she shared a close and special relationship. Nancy loved and excelled at cooking, always happy to share her food and skills with others. She also enjoyed going to casinos to play the slot machines and spending time with her adored dog, Daisy.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was predeceased by her sister, Bettina M. Caldara, and her beloved aunt; Josephine S. Ferraro. Nancy is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, as well as treasured cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday January 4, 2025 at 11am in the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave. Rotterdam. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Nancy’s family at the funeral home prior to her service from 9am to 10:45am. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville.
