Myrtle M. Giovannangelo, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18th, 2026, at Teresian House Center, in the company of her loving daughters. Myrtle was born on May 14th, 1933, in Scotia, NY to the late Wilbur and Edith Irene (Potter) VanHeusen.
Myrtle met her beloved husband, the late Daniel, Sr., and the two were wed on November 5th, 1949. Over the years, Myrtle established a proud name for herself as an independent and immensely talented cosmetologist with her own business, “Country Charm,” located in Scotia, NY. Outside of her work, she loved playing softball, bowling, spending cold winters at her and Dan’s condo in Fort Saint Lucie Florida, many vacations in Cape Cod, but most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Myrtle is survived by her daughters, Karen Biittig and Linda Coons (Bruce), her six grandchildren, Lisa and Daniel Giovannangelo, Jason Biittig, Karie Countermine (Michael), Lindsay Steenland (Steve), and Elise Coons, and her seven great-grandchildren, Christian, Kaleb, Kolton, Noah, Callie, Cayden, and Skylynn.
In addition to her parents, Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel A. Giovannangelo, Sr., and her son Daniel A. Giovannangelo, Jr.
Calling Hours will be held on Monday, January 26th, from 5-7PM, at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following morning, Tuesday, January 27th, at 10 AM, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Road, Schenectady, NY.
Interment will conclude Myrtle’s Services at Saints Cyril and Method Cemetery, Rotterdam, NY.
