Schenectady - Muriel M. Furman, 63, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully to join her Lord and Savior on October 13, 2025. Born in Lackawanna, New York, Muriel was the daughter of the late Cletus “Cliff” and Janice (Dennis) Hoffman. Her husband Michael R. Furman, whom she married on March 22, 1980, passed away in 2021.
Muriel graduated from Linton High School and was a lifelong Schenectady area resident. She worked at Guilderland Family Dentistry for over 20 years, as a dental assistant and at the front desk.
Her life was grounded in her faith and centered around spending time with her family and friends. Muriel’s greatest joy in life came from spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Her favorite pastimes were singing karaoke and passionately rooting for the Mets & Falcons with her husband Michael, playing pickleball, basketball and MVP catch with her grandchildren, walks in Collins Park, or relaxing on a beach, her favorite place to be. Muriel was a constant source of support guiding her friends and family with wisdom, patience, and unwavering love. She touched the lives of all who knew her leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion.
Along with Muriel’s parents and husband, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Christina. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Melody Kot (Christopher) and Harmony Furman (Joshua). Her three adored grandchildren, Lucas, Arabella and Axel Kot. Three siblings, Frank Hoffman, Howard Hoffman and Lavonne Hoffman Brinkmann along with several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her good friend and companion, Jerome Vaverchak.
Calling hours will be held Monday, October 20th from 5-7pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam.
Funeral services will begin 11am Tuesday, October 21st at the funeral home with burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Muriel’s memory to the City Mission of Schenectady 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
