Michaelyn V. Hiller passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 28, 2016 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, NY. Michaelyn was born in Albany, New York in 1947 and was the daughter of the late Francis and Helen Hiller. She graduated from Notre Dame High School and attended SUNY New Paltz and Chaffey College in Alta Loma, California. Michaelyn also graduated with honors from SCCC receiving and AAS degree in Data Processing. Michaelyn’s employment history was varied and allowed her to use her many talents. She worked as a switchboard operator for St. Anne Institute, a process server for Alexander Poole & Co., Inc., a typist for the Jewish World and a clerk for Region 4 NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. She was also regional manager and instructor for Tax Corporation of America. She operated M.V. Hiller Secretarial Services in Alhambra, California and was the office manager for Monroe Auto Equipment Company’s southern California district. Michaelyn was a partner and office manager in A-1 Landscaping and Lawn Service. She was a scorekeeper for the Schenectady Press Bowling Tournament for 15 years. She was also a computer programmer for the Lawrence Group. Michaelyn was the first Dog Control Officer employed directly by the City of Schenectady under the auspices of the Schenectady Police Department. She loved animals and had many dogs and cats throughout her life. She rescued several animals of both species. She was a volunteer for the Hartland School, students with dyslexia program. Michaelyn developed computer programs to be used by the students to help them learn math and spelling skills. She also developed a system that teachers used to grade the students in the specialized topics necessary to show their progress. Michaelyn was very active before being afflicted with multiple sclerosis. She frequently went skiing at Mt. Snow, Vermont. She also traveled throughout the Northeast on her motorcycle. An avid bowler with a 177 average, she was secretary for several leagues in the area. She was a guard on the women’s basketball team at New Paltz. She was a photojournalist for the Paltzonian college newspaper and a photographer for the yearbook. Music was a talented hobby she inherited from her Aunt Esther. Michaelyn played piano and guitar. She played guitar and sang in a coffee house while attending college at New Paltz. She also enjoyed playing trivia, card and board games. A graveside service for family and close friends will take place on Tuesday, September 6 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Central Ave, Colonie, N.Y. Michaelyn had a deep love of animals so it is requested that contributions in her name be made to: Guilderhaven, an organization for cat rescue and adoption, 6655 Route 158, Altamont, NY.
