Schenectady - Michael E. Donovan, child of God, passed away at Ellis Hospital with his loved ones by his side on Wednesday March 2, 2016. Born on February 11, 1942 in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late John E. & Grace M. Donovan. After graduating from Christian Brothers Academy in 1959, Mike entered the GE Apprentice Design Program and later became a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal. He then pursued higher education at SUNY. After numerous promotions up to Manufacturing Division Chief Mike retired in 1997 after 36 years of service. Among his many accomplishments, Mike served as President of the Federal Managers Association at Watervliet Arsenal for 13 years. Following retirement Mike was elected Federal Managers Association Zone president and subsequently Regional Director for over 17 years. Mike was also proud of the several years he served as President of the Highbridge Civic Association in Rotterdam. In addition, Mike was an avid golfer for many years. Mike was predeceased by his beloved wife of 26 years, Sandra L. (Riggi) Donovan. He is survived by his loving wife, Lillian M. Donovan. His daughter, Tracy A. Donovan (Derek Bryan). His niece, Kim Wonders and other nieces and nephews. Mike is also survived by Lillian's children, Michael & Joseph Leone and his grandchildren, Michael and Angel Leone and two great grandchildren. Mike also leaves behind his brothers & sisters -in-law, Annette Wonders, Vince Riggi, Judy Hennessey and Phyllis & Augie Mazzotti. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Burial in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery will be private.
