Michael E. Dicerbo

September 19, 1930 — January 19, 2024

ROTTERDAM - Michael Ernest DiCerbo born September 19, 1930, was called to the Lord on January 19, 2024 after a brief illness at home with his loving family by his side.

Son of the late Alfred and Carmella (Ranze) DiCerbo. Predeceased by his sisters, Katherine (Kay) Pease and RoseMarie (Rosie) Chiusano.

He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, class of 1948.  He was a life long resident of Schenectady.  He started his career at the age of 18 with General Electric in the Foundry and was later promoted to a Quality Control Specialist in the Gas Turbine department, retiring after 42 years of service in 1990. During his career, his position required him to travel around the world.  Through this, he made several friends throughout the many countries that he visited. His only regret in life was that he was unable to serve his country due to a medical condition.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  His family was his life, always thinking of others first. He was an avid sportsman and loved hunting and fishing with his sons.  He spent many weekends at  his grandchildren’s sporting and theater events.  His love of travel was shared with his family, as he treated them all to a trip to Italy to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, highlighted by a visit to his father’s hometown in Dugenta. Many cities were traveled in Italy, culminating with the renewal of their vows in Assisi.

Michael is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Patricia Sue (Navaretta) DiCerbo.  His four children, Ceil Drosky, Alfred DiCerbo, Michael E. Jr. (Debbie) DiCerbo, Patty (Len) Valletta. His six grandchildren, Dylan and Devry Drosky, Nicholas DiCerbo, Gabrielle (Nate) Ryan, Marissa (John) Seagrave and Michael (Marisa) Valletta. Also, his 4 great grandsons, with a new great grandchild expected. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank his doctors, including Joseph Fusella, MD and Denis Manor, MD who cared for him.  We would also like to thank Hospice for their compassionate and wonderful care. Also, NurseCore, especially Laura, his case manager, his aides Vulana and Patty, who were by his side and provided loving and exceptional care throughout his illness.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 24th at 11:00am at St. Gabriel’s Church, 3040 Hamburg Street, Schenectady, NY 12303.  Interment will follow at St. Cyril’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Michael’s memory to Ronald McDonald House of the Capital Region, RMHCofalbany.org, Community Hospice at communityhospice.org, or St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 3040 Hamburg Street, Schenectady, NY 12303.
