Mertice "Ann" Fitzgerald

Mertice "Ann" (Steinhorst) Fitzgerald passed away peacefully on October 9, 2015 at Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs. Ann was born in Utica NY on July 11, 1926 to parents Edward Steinhorst and Edna Anderson Steinhorst. She attended schools in New Hartford NY and after graduation attended the Utica School of Commerce. Upon Completion she worked in the office at the family sheet metal business, Emil Steinhorst and Sons, Inc in Utica NY. In the 1960's she was a homemaker until her employment as an underwriter in the boiler/machineryat Utica National (Mutual) Insurance Co. She retired in 1989 whereby she moved to Glenville to live close to her daughter, Kathryn. Ann was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Glenville. She moved to Saratoga Springs in 2012 to the Wesley community to live close to family again. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Carl Fitzgerald Jr and her dearest daughter Barbara Rose Adams. Ann is survived by her loving daughter Kathryn (William ) Lancaster of Saratoga , brother John Steinhorst and his wife Cookie of New Hartford NYgrandchildren Julie (Chris Rogers) Adams, Shawn Lancaster, Lee (Beth) Adams and Andrew( Mary) Lancaster and son in law Cal (Joanna) Adams and many nieces and nephews. Ann adored her great grandchildren Caroline Ann Lancaster, Ashley Rose Adams and Whitfield Adams. She looked forward to the arrival of another great granddaughter. Their visits and pictures brought her great joy. She was also known for her love of needle crafts and crocheted many items most notably her snowflakes for family friends. The family greatly appreciates the loving care and compassion given to her during her stay at Springs Fl. 2 at Wesley. A brief service and reception will be held on October 16, 2015 at 11 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 547 Saratoga Road (Route 50) Glenville Relatives and friends are invited to attend the celebration of Ann's life. A private graveside service will take place afterwards at Forest Hill Cemetery Utica. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a remembrance in Ann's Name to Good Sheppard Lutheran Church or Wesley Health Care Center 131 Lawrence St. Saratoga Springs NY 12866.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady, NY (518-355-5770).
