Rotterdam – Matthew J. Macejka III, 76, passed away on Friday, November 9th, 2018 at Ellis Hospital. A lifelong area resident, Matthew was born in Niskayuna to his parents, the late Matthew Macejka II and Violet (Capobianco) Macejka. Matthew was a graduate of Mohonasen High School and honorably served his county in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Afterward, he worked as an electrician for his family’s business and later for the Town of Rotterdam Department of Public Works. Matthew was a past president of Rotterdam JC and of Uncle Bill’s Hillbillies and vice commander of American Legion Post 1005. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks and VFW Post 1895. Bowling was a huge part of Matthew’s life. He was president of the Edgewood Independent Bowling League, past president of the Schenectady Bowling League and was a proud member of the Schenectady Bowling Hall of Fame. Matthew leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Edna (Bookhout) Macejka, his son, David Macejka and his pride and joy, his grandson, Roman Macejka. He also leaves behind his siblings, Deborah Harwood, John Macejka and James Macejka, god-children, Steven Warren and Karen Armstrong as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Dawn Macejka-Burnham and siblings, Gloria Bocchetti, Blanch Keough, Bill Macejka, Helen Nicholson and Anthony Gallo. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday evening from 4-7pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday morning at 9:15am at the funeral home and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10am at St. Luke’s Church, State St., Schenectady. Interment with military honors will take place at St. Cyril and Method Cemetery.
