Schenectady – Matthew S. Kopach, 68, passed away at home on Tuesday July 26, 2022. Born in Schenectady on March 7, 1954 he was the son of Emil and June (Vincent) Kopach. A lifelong Schenectady resident he worked at the General Electric Co. as an apprentice plumber followed by a career with the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Local 2 in Albany. Matt will always be remembered as a sweet and gentle soul who had a great love for people and animals. He especially enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, fishing and collecting native American and revolutionary was artifacts. He wrote beautiful poetry but turned down opportunities to have them published. Along with his parents Matt was predeceased by his wife Kitty and brother James C. (Patricia) Sasenbury. He is survived by his siblings Doris A. Nicklaw of Fletcher, NC, Marjorie (Jerry) Derusha of The Villages, FL, Tom (Lynnea) Kopach of Ganesvoort, NY and Mark (Debbie) Kopach of Schenectady, NY. Matt was also survived by and dearly loved by his many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to a worthy charity of one’s choice.
