Matilda M. Venturo Niskayuna, N.Y. Matilda Venturo (Til) passed away on May 17, 2013 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by loving family. Born in Schenectady, she was the devoted daughter of Philip Venturo and Katherine Rossetti Venturo. She is survived by her dearly-loved sister, Phyllis Spillane of Schenectady.She was the beloved aunt of Janice Fitzpatrick (Tom) and John Halstead (Lucy) and great-aunt of Sara Halstead, Amy Fitzpatrick and Tom Fitzpatrick. Til grew up in Bellevue and was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. She worked for 44 years for Kemper Insurance, starting out as a claims clerk and working her way up to Claims Manager. She was a long-time member of Our Lady Queen of Peace parish. Til loved dining out, family parties, and displaying her fashion sense while shopping for clothes. She loved traveling with her family and their "Sunday trips" and made annual trips to New Hampshire, her "second home". Returning to Italy for a vacation to celebrate her family heritage, gave her great joy. She was close to all of her sisters, but especially to Rose who passed away in 1995. They enjoyed their frequent visits to New York City to see Broadway shows. Til was devoted to her family and was always very interested in the activities of her sisters, nieces and nephews. She was extremely thoughtful and kind and was generous to all. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Philomena Venturo, Rose Venturo and Gloria Halstead; her brothers-in-law Jack Spillane and Donald Halstead. Friends and family are invited on Wednesday morning from 9-10 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Princetown Rd. Donations in Til's memory may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace, 210 Princetown Rd. Schenectady, NY 12306 or to a favorite charity of one's choice.
