Mary Catherine Krant

Mary Catherine (McLoughlin) Krant, age 79, passed away suddenly and peacefully in her home in Altamont, New York on December 20, 2025, surrounded by William “Chris” Krant, her husband of 54 years, her beloved daughter, Maureen Van Woert, and son-in-law, Christopher Van Woert.

Mary is the proud and loving grandmother of Maura (20), Keira (17) and Brendan (11), who reside 2 miles from her home.

Mary was born in Manhattan, NY to the late Mary A. McLoughlin (Mulrennan) and Charles McLoughlin who both emigrated from the Republic of Ireland in the early 1900’s, and eventually moved to Inwood, Manhattan, where Mary graduated from Good Shepherd Elementary School and then St. Catherine’s Academy.

Mary earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Mercy College in Dobb’s Ferry and a Master of Arts in “Counseling Psychology” from Manhattan College, while teaching at Holy Name School in Manhattan. She later became a certified Math Teacher/Coordinator and taught math for over 25 years, at St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY until she retired. Mary was appreciated as a vibrant classroom teacher and a supportive co-worker who enjoyed her many students and colleagues.

In 2017, Mary and Bill moved from Hicksville, Long Island to Altamont near Albany, NY, to be near Maureen and her family.

On Monday, December 29th, a Calling Hour will begin at 11am, in the Knights Chapel at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue, Albany, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 Noon in the church sanctuary.

Interment will conclude Mary’s services at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY.
