Schenectady

Mary "Mel" Lavigne, 62, passed away at home Monday, June 15, 2026. She was born in Troy NY, October 28, 1963 to the late Francis and Dorothy Lavigne.

Mary graduated from Tamarac High School, started her career in antique furniture restoration and married James King.

She worked at Renaissance Furniture for 25 years, became a certified aromatherapist, started her 13 Scents signature oils business, and tended bar. Her restoration skills were unsurpassed, both architecturally and the entire spectrum of furniture repair. She could restore anything to museum quality and was proficient at faux effects painting.

She loved dancing, hiking, browsing cemeteries, and being the life of the party! She loved her flower gardens, her treasured "Octa-garden", filled with herbs and spices, was well versed in plant varieties, had a remarkable knowledge of history and was a fabulous cook.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Dorothy, and her sister, Jean Pierson. She leaves behind her brothers Frank (Linda) and Terry (Wendy), sisters Pat Church and Judy Minard-Kirker, her ex-husband James King, her best friend and partner in life Rich Warner, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and her beloved kitties.

A heart felt thank you to Dr. Benjamin Margolis and Dr. Edward Farhangi, and their staffs, for the care they gave Mel recently, and to Dr. Kenneth Coleman, her cardiologist of 12 years.

There will be, no services per Mary's wishes. Donations may be made to Crabapple Farm NY Inc (Crabapple Cats & Kittens) at crabapplecats267@gmail.com.
