Schenectady, NY. Mary Fiore age 93, entered eternal life on Tuesday March 25, 2025. Mary was born in Schenectady. She is predeceased by her parents, Gerardo and Carmela (‘nee Caso) Fiore, her sisters Carmela DiCerbo and her husband Mike, and Donata Balascio and her husband Gus, as well as her nephews Gerard Balscio and John G. Huston, Jr. She was educated in Schenectady city schools, graduating from the former Mont Pleasant High School in 1949. Mary began her career as a secretary with IUE-AFL-CIO in Schenectady. In 1967, she began a 30-year career at the former St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectady where she became office manger in the Radiology Department before retiring in 1997. Mary was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (Schenectady). She was a member of the church’s children’s choir and The Children of Mary. As an adult, her activities for the church continued to grow. She was a leader of the parish’s Girl Scout troop, a founding member of the Suscipiat Canora Society, and a member of St. Theresa’s Guild and Women’s Society. A devoted sister, she was a second mother to her four nieces and nephews. She is survived by her nieces Mary Ellen Huston and Michele (Frank J.) Ciervo, and her nephews Mark (Mary Anne Volpe) Balascio and John Balascio. She also leaves behind her beloved great nieces and nephews: Kristen (Michael) Fratus, John Michael Huston, Courtney Ciervo, and Anthony, Joseph and Michela Balascio, in addition to her great-great nieces Isabella, Veronica Huston and Madison Fratus. Services will be held on Thursday, April 3, beginning with the 11:00 am – 12:30 pm viewing at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home (1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam, NY, 12306), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm, St. Luke’s Church (1241 State St., Schenectady), Fr. Dominic Isopo presiding. Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery (Schenectady). In lieu of flowers, and for those wishing to make donations in Mary’s name, the family requests contributions to Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons School, 2600 Albany St., Schenectady, NY, 12304.
