Mary (Civitello) Dematteo

Schenectady - Mary (Civitello) DeMatteo (94) of Rotterdam passed away on May 26, 2014. She was born in Schenectady, NY and until 2004 resided on The Plaza. Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Felicia (Monaco) Civitello. A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Mildred Elley Secretarial School, Mary was a secretary with the law firm of DeMatteo, DeMatteo & DeMatteo. She married Raymond E. DeMatteo on August 15, 1943 at Our Lady of mount Carmel Church. Mary spent many years as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was sustained throughout her life by a deep faith in God and the love of her family. An accomplished cook and baker, she will be remembered for her kind, sweet, caring and thoughtful ways. Mary was predeceased by her husband (Raymond 1998), and by her siblings Frank D. Civitello, Kathryn Civitello, Helen Smyth, Genevieve Bianco, Elvira Marcantonio, S. Daniel Civitello and Eleanor Bandos. Left to cherish her memory are loving children, RoseMarie McLean of Guilderland and Raymond E. (Karen) DeMatteo Jr. of Niskayuna; her treasured grandchildren Robert R. (Gabrielle) McLean, Maria (Scott) Iovinella, Michael (Crystal) DeMatteo, Nicholas (Caitlin) DeMatteo and Raymond G. DeMatteo; adored great-grandchildren Ava McLean, Grace Iovinella, Margaret McLean and Luke Iovinella. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:30-8 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 9:15 am Friday at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Schenectady.
